About Us‎ > ‎

The Greenwich Choral Society takes seriously its mission to serve its local Fairfield and Westchester Counties community. It draws its membership from throughout the area, offering avocational singers of all ages and backgrounds an opportunity to learn more about music and to raise their voices in excellent company and under professional direction.

Each year, GCS offers free annual memberships to outstanding young vocalists in their senior year at Greenwich High School, giving these young people a chance to experience a different level of music participation.

Special performances attract middle schoolers. One recent concert began with some special pre-concert educational talks directed to the audience of Greenwich, Norwalk and Stamford students.

GCS takes choral music to the schools, as well. GCS visits elementary and middle schools in Greenwich, tying performances and explanations to school curricula and classroom programs. For a look at how some children reacted to a GCS classroom visit, click here.

To introduce classical music to younger children, GCS was delighted to be featured in the Greenwich Arts Council's Curiosity Concerts, performing excerpts of Gilbert & Sullivan's H.M.S. Pinafore at the Greenwich Library. Photos of the event can be found in About Us/ Photo Gallery. Click here to read an interview about the event from OperaMetro.com.

The holiday season often finds GCS choristers making special appearances at local venues. An appearance at Norwalk’s SteppingStones Museum for its "Festival of Lights" was a seasonal highlight. Caroling on Greenwich Avenue in Greenwich as Christmas approaches is a special activity, especially when GCS’s enthusiastic choristers encourage passers-by to join in.

GCS is interested in expanding programs like these to other communities in its area and encourages inquiries.

With "Greenwich" in its name, it’s not surprising that GCS is called upon to represent* the Town of Greenwich. A tour to Vienne, a sister city in the south of France, incorporated concerts in Paris as well, including an appearance at residence of the U.S. Ambassador, a Greenwich resident.
