The Greenwich Choral Society has defined excellence in choral music since 1925, performing great choral works both locally and internationally. We create good music because we work hard, and we have fun as well.
Our season runs from September to mid-May with a 5-week break after
our December concert. We typically perform three unique concerts in early December, March and May. Choristers are expected to sing all concerts unless excused for good reason.
Rehearsals begin in September in the Daniels Center, basement, First Congregational Church, 108 Sound Beach Avenue, Old Greenwich, CT on Tuesdays from 7:45 to 10:00 PM. Choristers can make up a Tuesday evening absence by attending one of the Saturday morning rehearsals. Saturday morning rehearsals are generally offered twice a month. Many choristers attend all rehearsals to work through difficult music and improve their skills. Two or three mandatory dress rehearsals are scheduled shortly before the concert.
Fees: Annual dues are $175 plus a variable music fee. The Annual Dues is due no later than October 15. Music fees depend on when final costs are determined. If the fee or its timing present a problem for you, please speak with the GCS Music Librarian to arrange a payment plan.
GCS has only three paid staff; our Music Director, Accompanist and
General Manager. We have managed to balance our budget each year with the help of individual member dues (8%), chorister contributions and matching gifts (16%), non-chorister and matching gifts (15%) ticket sales (26%), grants (16%), annual benefit (5%) (not every year), and other miscellaneous income. These percentages are only an average, but they stress the importance of ticket sales and the increasing need for individual gifts when possible. We often receive donations from 100% of choristers, a figure that supports our grant applications.
GCS is a not-for-profit, tax exempt 501(c)(3) cultural organization.
